I received the first $38,514 in 2010. In December of 2011, I received the remainder ($12,500) of the $51,014 awarded to me. My main counsel, Locks Law, did not in any way, shape, or form, ask me to write this comment.
I believe that my counsel and their chief litigator, Michael Galpern, did a quite impressive job in reviewing the case prior to taking it on; in preparing me for my deposition; in their questioning of the Staples executives and of myself; and in their handling of the negotiations for the final settlement.
Andrew Jackson said, "One man with courage makes a majority". There are lots of us with courage. If the law is on your side, there are excellent lawyers who will take your case.
I did not need to pay any retainers or legal fees to Locks Law. All I needed to pay was subway fare to their New York office. They, and the jury saw, to their credit, that the truth was on my side. And there is a lot of power in the truth.

Re: Jury sides with plaintiffs in Staples class action lawsuit

It would be nice if they actually pay it. Needless to say my therapist ended up saying I am truely doing you no good as when you go back to work and your using your shoulder in any way you undo what little bit of good i've done, but i couldn't afford to loose my job so i did it anyway and still have trouble with my shoulder to this day....If that wasn't bad enough the little bit of a settlement i got from the accident, dollar general took as reimbursment for paying my hospital bills! As a single mom i needed to keep my job, so this past year I got really sick and was in and out of the hospital with severe breathing problems, well it just so happens my store had leaked since i took it over in 2006 and everytime i would go to work i would have these breathing attacks to the point of not being able to breathe, each time i would call someone about the leak they would say they fixed it, until the next rain and it would flood in my office again....got myself a mold kit and it tested positive, fought with the company to come do something with it, they didn't believe me so they had someone corp hired to come in and test themselves, i never got to hear there findings but a week later someone ws sent to my store to treat it for mold! I am still fighting everyday with my breathing issues even though they say its been resolved! the icing on the cake, even though i have the top sales store in my district and in the top 3% in shrink, the temp DM that watched our district for two months till we got a perm one decided since she had to watch my store thru my inventory this year as i was hospitalized with phneumonia, I didn't deserve a raise so i was the only store manager in my district this year that didn't get a raise! Needless to say after that and all you have read, this July is my last few days this company will get from me, they have ruined my life and had i not been supporting my son by myself i would have left long ago, i hope someone nails them to the wall for the horrible ppl they are!!!

Re: Court decertifies class in Dollar General wage and hour lawsuit

ditto! all true! same here for me .if the upper management would read inside the big box! they would know everyone that has been on here with their comment,s are saying the same thing! how can it not be true? doe's not take a rocket science,s to see it

Re: Court decertifies class in Dollar General wage and hour lawsuit

well here i am working another floor care 830pm until who knows if like last time i will be here until my shift ends tomorrow which is 1pm that will be 16.5 hours if my tired butt can add..........i love my job but last min. notice of floor care sucks .......to late to change schedule when people already made plans for the time the have off.....

Re: Court decertifies class in Dollar General wage and hour lawsuit

I understand your pain also. I was actually doing great until DG "re-alligned" districts and I got put with this DM that doesn't know her a$$ from a hole in the ground. After transfering me to her highest volume and also the highest shrink store, I had it turned around and she cut my hours. I was left alone in the store until 2 or 3 in the afternoon 3 days a week and would end up staying late because I could never get anything done. Instead of having my employees doing their online training she would tell me to sign them on and do it myself. She would then proceed to call me at home on my 1 day off (since in essence we worked 6 days...3 open and 3 close and with 2 trucks a week 2 of my shifts started at 5am) screaming at me and asking why I won't go in to cover cashier shifts after they had called in. I did make great bonuses for sales, but it was not worth it at all. My husband is also a retail manager (for another company of course) and has never been treated the way I was by her. I let him listen in on a conference call once and he was blown away by how many times this woman threatened our jobs. I stuck it out until she couldn't stand the sight of me and finally fired me. I am not proud to be on un-employment, but i am so happy to be out of that aweful work environment. I have become a person once again.

Re: Court decertifies class in Dollar General wage and hour lawsuit

I know how you feel. I've been with Dollar General for 6 yrs and my DM is trying his best to get rid of me. the only thing that is stopping him right now is that I'm still on WC since I got hurt helping the truck driver bring in freight. When I called ERC, DOT told me to get it in the best way I know how. Well none the lest I got hurt again. Boy they sure don't stand by there employees.,and for God sakes, don't let your spouse die they are really cold.

Re: Court decertifies class in Dollar General wage and hour lawsuit

I also was a manager at Dollar General working over 80-100 hours, mostly alone(due to the payroll they gave me) in a high shrink store and asked for assistance to be added to the claim against them. I guess Dollar General gets away with not honoring the recruitment when they hired me on for 42500, and only paid me 24500, held bonuses and didn't pay my vacation or time and a half for all the hours I sweated and put in dedicated time. My loyalty to the company to not take a sick day or vacation time, gets me termination vs paying me what was due. These corporations are killing family life and getting away with mistreating employees. If something is not done to put a hurting on them, they will continue to grow and keep damaging peoples lives. If there is any law firm that can take me on, I would appreciate it. I was hoping I would get the support of Beasley Allen, since they have already gone against them before. Being a single father, losing a wife through all the long hours I had to pull at Dollar General, trying to support 2 kids, I would have thought I would get some heart felt desire to put a hurting on Dollar General.

Re: Court decertifies class in Dollar General wage and hour lawsuit

DG has ripped off ther consumers for years . guess screawing the employees of a buck works for them someday they will be scraping to get by abd son pigs of a company wii sreaw with ther life money, I hope the all go where they belong Prison

Re: Tuscaloosa judges uphold $35M Family Dollar ruling

Please email me web@beasleyallen.com and I will be happy to look into this for you.
